Weekly Devotion April 28 2025

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: I Peter 5:10 And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. (NIV) Thoughts: Some lures, especially those made to catch fish with sharp teeth, must be made with rugged construction - ball bearing swivels and chomp-proof materials - components that make them indestructible. Even if the toothy critters that swim our waters may not totally destroy them, they can affect the lure's performance and fish-catching abilities, rendering them useless or ineffective.  What qualities are you made of? Do you allow the toothy critters or the trappings of this world to take away your effectiveness?  There was a time in my life when I fell victim to such things. Thankfully, God answered the prayers of my wife and used a friend to introduce me to my Lord and Savio...

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: Deuteronomy 12:15-16 Nevertheless, you may slaughter your animals in any of your towns and eat as much of the meat as you want, as if it were gazelle or deer, according to the blessing the Lord your God gives you. Both the ceremonially unclean and the clean may eat it. But you must not eat the blood; pour it out on the ground like water. (NIV) Thoughts: Is it okay to be a hunter? Is it okay to kill an animal? Is it okay to eat the meat of animals? Does God approve or condemn these practices? These verses clearly sanction the slaughter and the consumption of animals for meat. Jesus ate fish while on the earth and chose commercial fishermen to be among his apostles.  The animals are a part of the stewardship of the Earth that God has given to humans. Specifically named in these verses are domestic and wild game animals. He approves the use of animals for meat, leather, and for labor...

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: Matthew 25:21 "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' " (NIV) Thoughts: Most of the devotionals I write are from events that I have observed or experienced myself from everyday life; but it's how we choose to look at things that make them different.  The other day I had the privilege of helping organize a youth pheasant hunt. This hunt was intended to reward as well as encourage young people to get involved with hunting. It is a wonderful event, watching the dogs working and the kids having a great time.  As I was checking on one of the fields, I observed a group of young hunters coming back out of the field. I saw a young girl go running up to her Dad, just overflowing with excitement as she handed him the pheasant and yell...

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: Romans 3:23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard. (NLT) Thoughts: I have been sighting in my new muzzleloader this week. These actions have been repeated several times as I try to get things in line. Things do not fly perfectly.  When I first started this process, I was at 50 yds and could not hit the side of a 24 in square box. My scope wasn't seated well. Then, I had to restart the process over again. Finally, I brought the gun to zero, with good groups; but it took some time. Action Point: I also miss God's Mark. My life is one of being a sinner. "For everyone has sinned. . . " I need Him to straighten up my sights and keep after me until I shoot straight. I still may mess up, but the next verse is really the most important: "Yet God freely and graciously declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he fr...
