2025 Boundary Waters Highlights

Image
Highlights 2025 Boundary Waters Trip Our 2025 Boundary Waters Adventure began with a prayer for safe travels before we loaded up and started the eight-hour drive to Clearwater Outfitters. After spending the night in a bunkhouse and enjoying a hearty breakfast, we secured our permits and were on our way. It was a two-hour canoe trip and a short portage before we arrived at our campsite. Our spot was one of the best on the lake, with a spectacular view and a sandy beach that made it easy to launch our canoes. The weather was perfect the entire week. We started each day with a devotion, staying true to our mission. The fishing was a bit inconsistent, but we caught plenty of smallmouth bass. Walleye fishing was slow, but we were still able to enjoy fresh walleye several nights. We also targeted lake trout and had some great success, reeling in several large fish ranging from 24 to 29 inches . By the end of our trip, we had fished three different lakes. As the week came to an end, it ...

Sporting Clay Highlights

Our day was off to a good start with sun and no rain. We had a slight issue with these things called misquotes. The day began with a light centennial breakfast and greeting each other. Our devotional thought for the event was based on Matthew 16:15-16. The point of our devotion was do people recognize you as being a Christian. After some safety guidelines it was off to the course. The course was a little more crowded this year, but we were able to move along at a nice pace. The group was in the 50% range when it came to hitting clay pigeons. After everyone completed the course and the dust settled, we were back at the club house for a very nice lunch prepared by J&H. After lunch a number of door prizes were given out and we had a little for fellowship before everyone headed for home. A special note about this year’s event, we had a number of participants that invited friends and family. Although all of them couldn’t make it was great to see.

2025 Lac Vieux Desert Fishing Trip

Image
The Men of the Outdoors began its’ busy summer schedule with a trip to lake Lac Vieux Desert to spend several days fishing. Despite a little wind we had three nice weather days. The fish on Lac Vieux Desert get bigger every year.  We caught a large number of bluegills over 8 inches and perch over 10 inches. We did clean several hundred fish and enjoyed a very good fish fry. Fishing was just part of the experience. Our times together in Gods’ word, building friendships and sharing stories was an important part of our trip.   Again, Bob Dailey served as our host and guide. Bob did an awesome job which we greatly appreciate.   We thank our Loving Father for blessing us not only for the fish we caught, but also the time of fellowship we enjoyed.

September 18 2024 Breakfast Chat Highlights

Image
September 18 2024 MOTO Breakfast Chat   Our lively chat began with a devotion based on Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.   Devotional Thought: Most guys who hunt turkeys have a number of calls. They have their favorites and some just get stored. The favorites get a lot of use and will show some wear while the stored calls look like new. How  does your Bible look?  Does it show signs of usage, or is it shiny and new looking with no wear?   We all need to get into God’s word every day—read it, study it, and meditate on it throughout the day. It is the daily spiritual food that we need to grow. The Chat: There were a number of different topics that they guys chatted about. Turkey hunting was one of them. Terry Dorschner, who is heavily...

2024 Sporting Clay Highlights

Image
The 2024 Sporting Clay Event was blessed with a perfect weather day that had very few misquotes. The day stated with a light Continental Breakfast and a Devotion. Our devotion was base on Philippians 4:8-9 which taught us, like hunters who need to develop and practice skills to be successful, Christian men  need to apply and practice Biblical principles to find God's peace in their lives. After reviewing several safety practices we headed out to the course. There were very few other shooters on the course which allowed us to moved around the course at our own pace. We had several guys who weren't able to shoot, they kept score and pushed buttons. A number of guys had a good day, a few experienced an ok day and the rest just had fun. The group managed to down around 60% of the clay pigeons targets. When the shooting stopped and the smoke settled we headed to the club house for lunch. J...

April 17th Breakfast Chat

Image
Ron began our chat with a devotion entitled “Miraculous Catch of Fish” The thought came from Luke 5:4-5, Philippians 4:13 and John 12:32. You may recall these verses, the apostles were fishing all night and got shut-out. Jesus told them to throw the nets on the other side and they pulled in a large number of fish. Although these apostles were experienced fishing guys, they needed the power of Jesus to land fish. This event leads us to Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Him who gives me strength". Most of the conversation centered around turkey hunting and fishing. Terry brought a number of Call Turkey magazines to share with the group. Depending on your zone not everyone was in the woods or fields hunting yet. Listening to the conversation there are still a good number of turkeys out there. Walleye limits were harvested on the river. Drifting with night crawlers produced fish, however no one gave away any locations. A little discussion on electronics involved t...

Second Annual Quetico Trip

Image
The Men of the Outdoors will host its second annual trip to the Quetico Provincial Park June 22 to 29. The Quetico is considered to be more rustic and rugged than the Boundary Waters. It doesn’t have designated campsites with fire pits or latrines. Last year's trip experienced perfect weather and some amazing fishing with a lmost everyone getting a grand slam one of the days. (Grand Slam = 1 northern, 1 bass, 1 walleye, 1 lake trout) . The largest fish for the week was 41.5” northern. This is truly a wilderness adventure . The Quetico is located in Canada and you will need a form of identification like a passport for the trip. If you are interested in this trip and would like more information, please contact Pete Burton at pjb9440@gmail.com
