And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” (ESV)  Thoughts: If you want to be tested physically and emotionally, then sign-up for a 12.5- mile Tough Mudder course. I had never run more than a mile during my life to earn the presidential fitness award in gym class. Many years had passed, and somehow, I talked a half-dozen younger men into joining me to train for this physical challenge. Three months out, one mile, three miles, and then six miles of running. The Tough Mudder hype-man got us revved up on this cold and rainy morning. Our course was already tough and in the rain it would be even harder. I set a personal distance record, making it nine miles before my knee gave out, bec

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission  Bible Study Verse: Deuteronomy 8:6-7  Observe the commands of the Lord your God, walking in obedience to him and revering him. For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land -a land with brooks, streams, and deep springs gushing out into the valleys and hills. (NIV)  Thoughts: The land is flat and the woods are thick in northeast Maine. I was hunting with Tim, a buddy of mine. We stayed near a railroad bed and saw plenty of deer tracks. One day I decided to get off the tracks and go into the woods to see if I could push anything across to Tim. I was about 200 yd into the woods when I lost my sense of the direction I needed to return. I wandered around shouting, but the thick brush absorbed my voice. Finally, I heard a faint voice shouting back, and I headed toward that voice. Whether living in dense woods, a desert wilderness or by mountain streams, we all live in a moral wilderness. The Bible is the

MOTO Range Day

Image
This past Saturday several men from Men of the Outdoors met at Shiocton Shooting Range for the annual Range Day.  God blessed them with beautiful weather and an opportunity for Christian fellowship.  Ron Kueck provided the group with a devotion and a prayer before the event. Many of the men utilized the range to prepare for the upcoming hunting season and to socialize with others. The group concluded the event with a brat fry, raffle, and closing devotion.

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: Hebrews 12:1-2  Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (NIV©)  Thoughts: Dove hunting has been a passion of mine since I was ten years old on the farm where I grew up. Doves were the first animal I hunted, and it was a family affair with Dad and the brothers, as well as relatives and friends getting in on the fun. Fast forward to today. My son and I look forward to an annual dove hunt at my brother’s farm. It is a family tradition. One thing I learned early on about hunting doves was, when a flight of birds goes over, focus on one dove and

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: Luke 15:4-6  Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn't he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? (5) And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders (6) and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.' NIV.  Thoughts: I have an old owl hooter that I love to use when attempting to locate gobblers. It sounds very realistic. I have triggered many gobbles and called in many owls using my old, weathered owl call. It’s by far the best I’ve ever owned or heard. A few turkey seasons ago, I had made a very long trek chasing toms; when I got back to my vehicle and was putting my things away, I noticed my owl hooter was missing. I had left it somewhere in the woods. I immediately retraced my walk to every location I had sat down.
