Bible Study Verse: Hebrews 12:1-2
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off
everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the
race marked out for us, 2
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy
set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the
throne of God. (NIV©)
Thoughts: Dove hunting has been a passion of mine since I was ten years old on the farm where
I grew up. Doves were the first animal I hunted, and it was a family affair with Dad and the
brothers, as well as relatives and friends getting in on the fun. Fast forward to today. My son and
I look forward to an annual dove hunt at my brother’s farm. It is a family tradition. One thing I
learned early on about hunting doves was, when a flight of birds goes over, focus on one dove
and you will likely hit it. Shoot at the flock and you’ll likely miss them all.
Action Point: We are to fix our eyes on Jesus and stay focused on Him. Jesus is our example of
how to live the Christian life. Notice that Jesus embraced “the joy set before him,” and endured
the cross for our benefit. Because of Jesus’ example, we can walk in a sinful world and not grow
weary or lose heart, just as Jesus did. I know it's tough at times, but, if you stay focused on Jesus,
you will have the same joy available to you that He had because we know the end game when we
will also be with the Father.
Sportsmen’s Tip of the Day: When hunting doves or other birds, be sure to pick up the litter
from shooting and cleaning the birds (shotgun shells, feathers, and entrails). Leave the site clean
for the landowner and/or for the next guy.
