Weekly Devotion February 26 2024

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: 1 Peter 5:8-11  Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. 10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11 To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen. (NIV©)  Thoughts: In 2015 and 2016 I drew back-to-back archery elk tags in Arizona. I spent a lot of time in one particular area that, during the hunting season, is walk in only. During those two years I put in over 100 miles on foot checking water tanks, patterning elk, and, generally, just getting to know the area. It was a lot of fun and very refreshing to be out in the forest enjoying

Breakfast Chat Highlights 2/21/2024

Image
Our chat began with a devotion drafted by Steve Chapman which was based on 2 Corinthians 5:9. The text reminded us that we can enjoy our passion for hunting and fishing, but our Heavenly Father comes first in our lives.  Terry Dorschner was recognized for his National Wild Turkey Federation award. Terry's award stated  he was "Wisconsin Outstanding Individual Hunter Mentor who recruits the most new Hunters." Terry has introduced well over 100 individuals to turkey hunting. The vast majority of these individuals were youth and the disabled.   Congratulations, Terry! Hunting and fishing knowledge was shared along with several stories. Given that we all are Christians the stories were true. ( a 12 point buck was a 12-point buck and a 300-pound bear was a 300-pound bear) Our chat ended around 10:00 AM. Our next chat is scheduled for April 17th at Marly's beginning at 8:30 AM. Hope to see you then. May God Bless

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission  Bible Study Verse: Philippians 3:12-14  Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (NIV)  Thoughts: As I have been trying to once again become proficient with a bow after 20 years I have had some difficulties. I have lost 5 arrows, which hurts your wallet as much as it does your pride. When I draw my bow, the trees begin to shake with fear. Archery takes different skills than a gun, but they also share some skills.  Action Point: When I miss with my bow I have a tendency to get frustrated and angry with myself and these feelings are even wors

But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. NIV. Luke 9:62 Jesus replied, "No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God." NIV.  Thoughts: The large vain gobbler was strutting and following a small harem of hens in my sight but well out of my shotgun range. He wasn’t paying attention to my calling or my old single-hen decoy. All the hens left the field, and the old tom stopped and turned for one last look in my direction. I gave him one final loud cut on my Twin Hen box caller, and at the same time, a gust of wind moved my decoy ever so slightly. This was all it took. The gobbler covered the 150 yards bet

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission   Bible Study Verse: I Thessalonians 5:1-2  Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. (NIV)  Thoughts I was busted!!! Just busted!!! I had been sitting quietly in my tree waiting for the buck that I knew would be there. I was watching the trails in front of me and to both sides when I heard a faint noise from behind me. I eased my head slowly around and there he was!!! He was looking right at me! With a snort and a white flag, he let me know quickly that he had come and I had not been prepared.  Action Point: The Bible tells us in I Thessalonians 5:1-2 that the Lord will show up some day and none of us know when that will be. We are to look forward to that day and watch for Him day after day. We must be sure that we have a relationship with the Savior and urge those around us to make sur
