(NIV©) Thoughts:   Let’s set the scene. A friend of mine had an archery elk tag and I was going along to help. We could hear a bull bugling as he walked ahead of us in the dark and decided to try to get in front of him. Have you ever tried to out walk an elk? Let’s just say, it’s not likely to happen. Anyway, we were hustling through the dark and I tripped on a rock and went down hard on my left knee. Fortunately, there was no serious damage and I could continue in the chase. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. NIV   Thoughts: Recently I had the best single turkey hunting day of my 41 years of harvesting gobblers. I would need about five thousand words to describe that single day of turkey hunting bliss adequately. In short, the ending of my day resulted in two nice Rio toms taken with one shot over a set of decoys amongst a grove of live oaks. I had to pay a landowner a small fee to hunt this particular place. To secure the hunt, I had to send him a deposit. I mailed earnest money, a non-refundable guarantee that I would show up, pay the rest of the fee, and then hunt.  Action Point; The Lord God gives the Holy Spirit as an earnest to each of us who are saved, purchased, and red

Breakfast Chat May 10, 2023 Highlights

Our devotion theme for the chat was Fishing is a Privilege . The central thought is that God wants us to enjoy being out on the water and everything associated with fishing. But Jesus, our Lord and Savior, has to be the first priority in our lives. In addition, our families, church, and work need to be placed above fishing. When we align our lives in this order, our time fishing will be more enjoyable. Terry Dorschner, an avid turkey hunter, does a wonderful job of helping youth and the physically challenged experience his love of hunting turkeys. He shared several newspaper pictures of some of the people he helped harvest a turkey. We spent a little time talking about fishing on a river with down trees. It was our understanding that a tree that falls into a river or lake can’t be removed without a permit. The conversation moved to fish limits. Since the group is retired, we remember the days when fish limits were simple. The panfish limit was simply 25. Several of the guys shared the

Bible Study Verse: Eph 6:10-11  Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. NIV  Thoughts: We've all heard about the destructive capabilities of saltwater environments on our boats, trailers, and fishing equipment. The questions are: Do we flush out are engines? Do we wash, rinse, and wipe off our boats and fishing equipment? My experiences in saltwater environments are that the maintenance is immense. Action Point:   Do we realize the destructive forces of Satan? Ephesians 6:12 says: "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Fortunately, the word of God says that we have available to us, "the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God." Scriptural truth is our primary line of defense. If we are
