Bible Study Verse: 1 John 1:5-7
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there
is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness,
we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we
have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from
all[a] sin. (NIV©)
Thoughts: Let’s set the scene. A friend of mine had an archery elk tag and I was going
along to help. We could hear a bull bugling as he walked ahead of us in the dark and
decided to try to get in front of him. Have you ever tried to out walk an elk? Let’s just say,
it’s not likely to happen. Anyway, we were hustling through the dark and I tripped on a
rock and went down hard on my left knee. Fortunately, there was no serious damage and
I could continue in the chase. For the record, the elk out walked us. And, one of the
questions I have for the Father when I arrive in heaven is, why did He put so many rocks
in Arizona?
Action Point: Good and evil are characterized in the Bible as light and darkness. If I
claim to be a believer and walk in darkness (evil ways) instead of the light (good ways),
then I am not living in the truth. Who claimed to be “truth?” Jesus did (John 14:6 --
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except
through me.) (NIV©)! Are we walking in the light and the truth of Jesus as we should
be? If so, this passage promises that, by the blood of Jesus, we will be purified from all
sin. As Jesus says in Matthew 5:16, “In the same way, let your light shine before others,
that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (NIV©)
Sportsmen’s Tip of the Day: Full moon nights can make it fairly easy to move around
after dark. On darker nights, have multiple ways to light your way, including extra
batteries.
