Breakfast Chat May 10, 2023 Highlights
Our devotion theme for the chat was Fishing is a Privilege. The central thought is that God wants us to enjoy being out on the water and everything associated with fishing. But Jesus, our Lord and Savior, has to be the first priority in our lives. In addition, our families, church, and work need to be placed above fishing. When we align our lives in this order, our time fishing will be more enjoyable.
Terry Dorschner, an avid turkey hunter, does a wonderful job of helping youth and the physically challenged experience his love of hunting turkeys. He shared several newspaper pictures of some of the people he helped harvest a turkey. We spent a little time talking about fishing on a river with down trees. It was our understanding that a tree that falls into a river or lake can’t be removed without a permit.
The conversation moved to fish limits. Since the group is retired, we remember the days when fish limits were simple. The panfish limit was simply 25. Several of the guys shared the current limits on the lakes they fish. The total limit of 25 panfish for the most part still exists. One lake out of the 25 would only allow 5 bluegills over 7 inches, on another lake you could only keep 10 crappies, and one lake only allowed you to keep 10 perch. There are some rivers and lakes where the limits change depending on your location. We ended the discussion by chatting about walleye limits which are also all over the board. The older we get the more complicated the outdoor world gets.
We will be hosting two more chats later this year. Look forward to seeing you then.
