Bible Study Verse James 1:19
My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak
and slow to become angry,
(NIV)
Thoughts When I go fly fishing, the first thing I always do is observe my surroundings. What flies
are currently hatching? Where are the deeper pools that might be holding bigger fish? What
obstacles do I need to look out for as I cast? A great day of fishing starts with being quick to
observe and slow to start casting. I believe this principle holds true in our relationships. In fact,
it’s Biblical. When my children annoy me or a co-worker upsets me, I’m often quick to get angry
or offer a snappy comeback. It is rare for me to pay attention, to listen, to think about what’s really
going on in the lives of those around me. A great conversation starts with being quick to listen and
observe, which usually leads to well-timed questions and joyful interactions.
Action Point Try to be observant today. Be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become
angry. Ask a well-timed and well-worded question before giving advice or getting angry.
Sportsmen's Tip of the Day Slow your pace down the next time you’re fly fishing. Speed kills.
Look more. Walk less. Take your time. Not only will you enjoy yourself more, you’ll likely catch
more fish
