Bible Study Verse: Revelation 3:15-16
15
I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!
16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my
mouth. NIV.
Thoughts: I love deer hunting on cold days. I love coffee too. So, it doesn’t get much better for
me than to carry a thermos of hot java and thoroughly enjoy a quiet, tranquil sit on a deer stand
and take in God’s wondrous creation. On the flip side, after a long morning of chasing spring
gobblers, I’ve usually worked up a thirst, and it’s refreshing to have an iced bottle of water
waiting on me at my truck. I typically take a small water bottle with me, but I will toss that one
to the side when an ice-cold one is available. Likewise, when my coffee starts getting cold, I
don’t like it anymore and will pour it out.
Action Point: Don’t become a lukewarm Christian. It’s easy to get into a rut and become that
way—neither hot nor cold. Encounter God regularly—we should submerge ourselves in His
Word and study the Bible daily; attend church regularly; pray constantly; and commit to Him the
first and last moments of each day He gives us. We won't become lukewarm when we meet with
the Lord often and consistently. Those lost are looking for us to be the cold and refreshing drink
to quench their thirst for the Lord in a dry and desolate world. And, when the world turns cold,
being on fire for Jesus will draw others to warm at the campfire of the Lord.
Sportsman’s Tip of the Day: Prime your thermos to keep your coffee hot longer. Boil water and
fill your thermos before filling it with your favorite java. Let it sit for a few minutes, empty it,
and immediately pour in your favorite brew. You will have a hot cup of joe late into the morning
hunt.
