Bible Study Verse: Malachi 4:6
He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to
their parents…. (NIV)
Thoughts: I’m a crazy midwestern whitetail deer hunter. I work at it all year in the prep
and sometimes it pays off. I don’t get to hunt alone to often because I have twin sons that
both like to hunt. However, they are both in college and don’t get out as much as they’d
like right now. Coming home for the weekend and getting out to the woods creates
challenges around schoolwork and other activities. It is nice when they are home because
it gives me a hand or two when I actually score a deer in the woods. Sometimes they go
hunting, sometimes they sleep in! It’s in those moments when I get to remind them that
they should’ve went hunting instead of sleeping in, because that’s when I usually get a
deer. However, they are always gracious with me and will always come help track and
drag the harvest from the field. As they get older, I know these times will be fewer and
fewer.
Action Point: The verse in today’s devotion is taken from and Old Testament Prophet and
the last book in the Old Testament. Malachi is talking about the great and terrible day of
the Lord’s return. One can’t help but to look at current world events and wonder if we are
close? As a parent, I want to see my kids grow up, get married, and maybe have their own
kids one day. But I will trust the Lord and all His promises, including the ones in this
verse. May our children turn their hearts back to their parents and eventually to the
Lord. As our kids get older, they get to make their own decisions about God and church
and Jesus. Don’t push them away, just keep dripping water on them and hopefully they
will turn their hearts back to the Jesus they knew when they were little. God bless our
children.
Sportsmen’s Tip of the Day: Practice, practice, practice! I can’t stress that enough for
sportsmen. No matter what your weapon of choice, practice with it until you are so
comfortable with... it's second nature when the time comes to shoot!
