Bible Study Verse:1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. (ESV)

Thoughts: Animals are all classified by species and subspecies. If you look at the picture above, you will undoubtedly see a cow elk. But, can you identify the subspecies? Your choices are North American, Tule, Roosevelt, Manitoba and Rocky Mountain elk. Certainly, I can, but only because I took the picture and know from what region it was taken. Without a solid, educated understanding of elk and other animal species in this country you often cannot distinguish the subspecies among them. By living among wildlife and studying them through research and time spent in the field, you can learn to recognize animals by their tracks, droppings, scent and other means.

Action Point: In addition to the verse above, 2 Peter 2:1 also warns of false prophets and warns of the punishment to these individuals who lead others astray. Some claim they are of God, but they are teaching perverse unbiblical doctrines. Not all of these individuals purposely deceive, but they are not knowledgeable in the doctrine of Christ. Their false teachings are not easy to distinguish if you are not educated and studying the Word of God. The Book of Jude is another letter that speaks a clear warning to believers of false prophets and the punishment these deceivers will one day receive.

Sportsman’s Tip of the Day: It is not hard to distinguish between an elk and a deer. Bird hunting, however, poses a twofold issue; species and gender (in many hunting cases), and at lightning speed. The more magazines you read, the more videos you watch, and the more time you spend in the wild will help you learn more about wildlife. The cow in the picture is a Roosevelt Elk
