This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: Exodus 16:4-5 -- 4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions. 5 On the sixth day they are to prepare what they bring in, and that is to be twice as much as they gather on the other days.” (NIV©)  Thoughts; I have this one-hundred-thirty-pound black lab named Winston, also known as Winnie, also known as Doggo, or whatever other name pops into my head depending on what he’s doing. Winston has a habit that he practices daily. Whenever Winston comes in from the back yard, he immediately goes to his food bowl to see if I’ve left a treat there for him. His food is there, but sometimes there’s a bit of cheese or some other delectable item that he immediately scarfs down. Winston trusts me, whether it is for his normal f...

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: Psalm 16:11 You make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever. (NASB)  Thoughts: When I was about 13, I witnessed one of the most amazing sights a duck hunter can see. It was preseason and I was scouting public land when I walked up on a small pond isolated by acres of wooded and rugged terrain. I was within 20 yards from a small pond when I stepped on a branch that crunched. I looked toward the direction of the pond to see hundreds of mallards collectively flying off. My plan was to hunt this small pond the during the upcoming season. When duck season opened, I was disappointed to learn that because of pressure from other duck hunters in the area, this was no longer a place where the mallards would call home. In fact, it was desolate every time I hunted it.  Action Point: In life, we face many disappointmen...

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse : Proverbs 12:27 The lazy man does not roast his game, but the diligent man prizes his possessions. (NIV)  Thoughts: The big ten-point stepped quietly out of the woods and began to walk slowly down the field-line. With great caution, he tested the wind and kept his head moving as he watched the open field carefully. Finally, he was broadside, a muzzleloader sounded off, and my brother had his biggest buck to date.  Action Point: That big buck encounter didn't just happen. You see, I've left out some details in that story. I left out the hours we spent scouting and glassing that field. I didn't tell you about the time spent setting up a stand, clearing shooting lanes, trimming limbs, and figuring out prevailing wind directions. I didn't mention that we worked to figure out how to walk in to that stand so that we would remain undetected. The moral of this story is that it took ...

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse : Luke 22:31-32 "Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers." NIV. Psalms 51:9-10 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. NIV.  Thoughts: More often than not, I learn the hard way. I have made many mistakes when it comes to hunting, especially whitetails. There are certain enclosed blinds on food plots that I love to sit for evening hunts. I used not to study the wind direction or weather forecasts for the timeframe of planned hunts. I can’t tell you how often my scent has meandered in the wrong direction. When my scent enters a bedding area, I will not see a deer, and deer will spook when it drifts across feeding areas. Even when the wind was right for th...
