Study Verse: Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. NLT. Ecclesiastes 10:10 Using a dull ax requires great strength, so sharpen the blade. That's the value of wisdom; it helps you succeed. NLT.
Thoughts: Every sportsman knows the necessity of having a sharp knife. A
fisherman filets the fish. Deer and elk hunters’ skin their harvested animals, then
debone and slice their venison. Turkey hunters often breast-out gobblers. Then
there’s rabbit, squirrel, duck, dove—the list could go on. You know what I am talking
about: after the harvest, you’ve got to have a sharp knife. A dull knife will make a
mess of things
Action Point: We all need to stay sharp in life, too. Staying sharp Biblically requires
regular and intentional engagement in Scripture. Everyone needs to set aside time
every day and dig into God’s word. Memorize verses to internalize God’s Word,
which will sharpen you tremendously. If you have not tried memorization before, an
excellent place to start is memorizing Psalms chapter 1. Lastly, hang out with
Christian friends and share your journey. This not only will keep you sharp like
today's Bible verse in Proverbs says, but it will also help keep you accountable.
Spiritual dullness will make a mess out of life.
Sportsman’s Tip of the Day: Keep your knife sharp. Check your knife before the
start of a hunting season or before going on a trip. Keep a small stone or sharpener
with you in your hunting pack. Old vintage telephone fuses or the filaments from
high-pressure sodium light bulbs are excellent to have tucked back if you can get
your hands on one of these.
