Bible Study Verse: Matthew 24:32-36

32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it[e] is near, right at the door. 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. 36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,[f]

Thoughts: August of 2012 I was sitting some one hundred yards back from the edge of a deep canyon squalling on a varmint call hoping to attract a bear within rifle range. Now, understand, I had not been to the canyon’s edge and didn’t know if there was a bear anywhere near my stand, I was simply calling blind hoping a bruin could hear the call and would be hungry enough to come to it. After two sets of calls I looked around and in front of me was a bear some forty-five yards away standing on its back legs and looking at the exact spot where I was hidden. The .300 H&H Magnum did its job and I had my first bear.

Action Point: The disciples had asked Jesus two questions in Matthew 24:3: when would He come to set up His Kingdom and, when would be the “end of the age?” Jesus told of many signs in verses 4-31 that would occur prior to these two coming events happening. But, I believe the disciples were very surprised when Jesus told them that nobody knew the day or hour that He would return, not the angels and not Himself, but only the Father knew of that day. So, since we don’t know the day or hour, I would ask, are you prepared for Jesus to return for those that have believed in Him and have put their faith in Him? I hope you are. Because I believe in Jesus as He said in John 3:16, I am ready. Just like I was prepared for the bear to come to my call without notice, I am prepared to meet Jesus whenever that day occurs. I hope you are as well.

Sportsmen’s Tip of the Day: Bears, coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, and foxes will come to a varmint call. When calling, camouflage yourself, sit still, and watch. Most predators will come in silently looking for an easy meal. Also, remember, they think the source of the call is that meal. Be vigilant and don’t let the meal be you.
