Bible Study Verse: 2 Timothy 3:14-17
14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. NIV
Thoughts: In 2016 I drew an archery elk tag and had been dialing in my bow where I live, that being in the central desert region of Arizona. A couple days prior to the hunt I drove up to my hunt unit in the ponderosa forest of northern Arizona and set up my camp. After doing a little more reconnaissance on how, when, and where the elk were moving in the area I was relaxing and decided to shoot my bow a little. To my surprise, the bow that shot dead on in the lower elevation was shooting some six inches low at twenty yards up at 7,000 feet! After an adjustment, the bow was shooting spot on again. The bow was now ready for the hunt. The time spent re-zeroing my bow paid off two days into the hunt with a nice five by five bull!
Action Point: Bows or rifles, it doesn’t matter, you have to sight them in, both prior to your hunt and after arriving at your hunt area. Sights can get bumped during travel and the weapon won’t shoot where you expect. Similarly, we Christians must be reading and meditating on the Word of God in order for it to be useful in our lives. This includes daily reading, studying, and reflecting on passages as well as listening to pastors that honestly and effectively explain the scriptures so we will be prepared for and able to handle the attacks of the evil one. Just as a rifle or bow that only gets shot once a year might not be on target, a closed and unused Bible does the believer little good. Get into the word! Read it, learn it, and follow it so that you will be ready for the opportunities that come along daily to use it!
Sportsmen’s Tip of the Day: Spend time at the range both sighting in your bow or rifle and practicing. Time spent at the range will pay off when that monster buck or bull steps out in front of you!
