Bible Study Verse: 2 Timothy 4:2      Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage – with great patience and careful instruction. (NIV)

Thoughts: We all know the story and I’m sure many of us have experienced the thrill. That’s catching a giant Pike when you are actually fishing for something else. Those are always the best kind to catch in my opinion. Fishing for bluegills and wham! Casting a crank bait for bass and wham! I could go on and on, but you get the picture. Sure, you can always target Pike and it’s not overly complicated, but nothing is better than a surprise Pike as I like to call them. You just always have to be ready when you’re on the water.

Action Point: There is a lot of good stuff in the books of Timothy. He was a student of Paul and got solid instruction on the organization of the Church, the responsibilities of certain leaders as well as lessons on faithfulness, encouragement and patience. The instructions in those books still teach us today. Today’s verse has always jumped out at me as a sportsman. Often, I find myself on a hunting trip with someone who doesn’t know the Lord. It takes time, but I can usually find a way to share my faith. But you have to be looking for these small opportunities. You may not get to share your testimony or the sinner’s prayer, but if you can show Jesus in the small things, the big opportunities will come if you keep the faith. Always be ready!

Sportsmen’s Tip of the Day: There are always things to do in preparation for your next day of fishing on the water. In fact, changing your line halfway through the summer is always a great idea. Line is fairly cheap, and you never know when you’ll get a surprise Pike.
