Bible Study Verse: Matthew 4:18-20
18 As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He noticed two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19 And He said to them, "Follow Me [as My disciples, accepting Me as your Master and Teacher and walking the same path of life that I walk], and I will make you fishers of men." 20 Immediately they left their nets and followed Him [becoming His disciples, believing and trusting in Him and following His example]. AMP.
Thoughts: I like fishing for bass. Sometimes, when I fish a particular fishing hole, I have a nice, big wooden walkway where I can stand and cast. I’ve caught many bass there. It’s easy fishing, but I can’t cast and reach the majority of the water, especially the spot where there are some sunken trees. When I see a big bass strike in this area, I have to step off the walkway and navigate through some weeds, which may get my shoes muddy, to reach the spot where a big fish might be. It’s not always a sure thing, but it has paid off more than a few times.
Action Point: How can we fish for men? We must step off the walkway and venture into the weeds of everyday life to seek out those who need Christ. It’s easy to go to church every Sunday and worship and fellowship with other believers. However, most people who need to be reached aren’t at your Sunday morning service. You have to go after them. Here’s how to do it: Live the life you live, don’t hide your Christianity, and share your story about what the Lord has done in your life with others. You and I are specifically placed where we are in life at this time for a purpose. If you see someone who has wandered or is lost, go after them.
Sportsman’s Tip of the Day: Underwater structures in water holes of any size are excellent places to catch bass, especially the larger ones. Fish near them when the temperatures rise. Soft plastics such as Berkley or Mister Twister worms, Carolina-rigged and fished slowly, will work well. Even better is the Zoom Trick Worm rigged wacky; if you’re not familiar with it, research it, as it will pay off.
