Bible Study Verse: Exodus 32:9
“I have seen these people,” the Lord said to Moses, “and they are a stiff-necked people.” (NIV)
Thoughts: Growing up in the Midwest, people always look for the first Robin which usually tells us that spring it right around the corner. Then I’ve heard people say that it’s the Turkey Vultures that come back first in the spring. Nope, wrong again. It’s actually the Sandhill Crane and when they come back and land it’s a crane party! We can’t hunt them in Indiana but they are fun to watch and listen too. We have them near where I live and I’m always fascinated with their long necks. What a cool creature God created.
Action Point: We sure can be fickle people, just like the Israelites in our verse today. See, God had called Moses up to the mountain for a long time and after a while, the Israelites got discouraged and started to rely on their own wisdom, instead of going to God. Moses left his brother in charge, and they melted down all the gold they had into the shape of a golden calf and they worshipped that instead. Every time I read that story; I just shake my head in unbelief. However, we can be the same way in our lives by worshipping things more than we worship God. Even hunting and fishing can take our eyes off the ball if we’re not careful. So, put God first in all things.
Sportsmen’s Tip of the Day: You can hunt Sandhill Cranes in Texas and Oklahoma and I have that on my bucket list. They call them “Ribeye of the Sky” and are remarkably close to beef. Just make sure you always practice shooting before you go on any hunt
