Bible Study Verse: Hebrews 12:1-2

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God's throne. NLT.

Thoughts: Has this ever happened to you? You are in a deer stand waiting on a buck to show himself or sitting against a tree listening to a gobbler and hoping he will come in–and your cell phone buzzes. Your hunting buddy, spouse, children, friend, or someone from work engages you in text message conversations. And you lose focus on your current hunting situation. Then, a noise grabs your attention—it’s the buck or the gobbler right in your face, and you have a cell phone in your hands instead of your bow, rifle, or shotgun. It's not a good feeling when your quarry eludes you because of your distraction. I know this feeling from experience

Action Point: Are you Christ-focused? It’s very easy to get distracted in today’s society with sports, politics, bad news, worldly possessions, and outdoor activities. Sometimes, we all need to ‘reset’ and shuck whatever keeps our attention from our relationship with Jesus. Focus on Christ, stay in the word, and attend church consistently. Our relationship with God through the Lord Jesus is the most essential thing in life.

Sportsman’s Tip of the Day: It’s hard to leave cell phones and electronic devices behind when hunting or fishing. However, bringing them can be beneficial, such as for communications during emergencies, weather tracking, maps for navigating, and much more. Always remember to put your devices on silent before going into the field. A loud ringing cell phone at the moment of truth will likely ruin a hunt.
