Bible Study Verse: Mathew 4:18-20

18 Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.19 And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” 20 Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.

Thoughts: In this passage, Jesus makes a simple request of two men who very well could be just like one of us. The simple request was “follow Me“. Put yourself in their shoes – you are fishing by a lake or hunting out in the woods, and a man comes up to you and says, "follow Me". You drop your rod and fishing gear or your hunting rifle and immediately follow Him! If we had this kind of encounter, we would know that this was Jesus, the Lord of lords, the King of all kings. In our hearts, we would say this is the right thing to do because this truly is the son of God!!

A footnote here would be that Jesus did not say, “can I hang out with you guys and kind of tag along?” He said, follow Me and I will change your whole fishing experience from catching fish to men. And in Luke 9:23 He even gets more pointed about following Him. It’s not just a casual walk but a total surrender denying yourself and taking up your cross daily!

Action Point: Ask the Spirit of God/The Spirit of Christ in you to show you more specifically what that walk should look like for you in your life.

Sportsmen's Tip of the Day: Your chances of catching more and bigger fish improve dramatically with fresh bait. Remove dead baits.
