Bible Study Verse: Matt 26:41 & 1 Pet 5:8
"Watch and pray so that you may not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. Be alert and sober-minded. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour." (NIV)
Thoughts: On my very first hunt, my dad and brother fell asleep in our Suburban before sunrise because they had already been hunting for a while...but I was WIDE awake, though, and ready to deal the death to a unsuspecting deer! While they were sawing wood, I was peering into the morning shadows looking for my prey. All of a sudden I saw two ears pop up above the rear window. A yearling buck had stepped up on the rear bumper and was looking into our SUV! I slid down in the front seat and whispered, "Dad...Daaaad! There's a deer looking into our car." My dad just mumbled, "Sure, sure, ok, buddy. Sounds great. We can start hunting here in a little bit," and then went right back to sleep. I stayed down and watched the clock on the dash and as soon as it was legal to shoot I said, "Dad, can I kill the deer?" He mumbled without thinking, "Yeah, yeah, sure, bud." I rolled out of the door of the truck with my rifle and let 'er rip! I got my first deer AND gave my dad a scare from the shot, all at the same time!
Action Point: A lack of prayer leads to increased temptation. If we cease to pray, we will become prey. The devil prowls around looking for his next meal and falling asleep at the wheel of your life lets him come in close to you and those you love to plan his attack. Staying watchful in prayer and surrounding yourself with those who will watch over you, will safeguard your life against the attacks of the evil one. One of the best ways to be led away from temptation and the attacks of the evil one, is to allow God to draw you away into conversation with him through prayer!
Sportsman's Tip of the Day: Always keep eyes on your game after your shot and watch intently which way they run. I learned this with my first deer! I hit his vitals but he ran a good 50 yards before he piled up into some cedar bushes and expired. Unfortunately, I didn't see this because I poked my head back into the truck to tell my dad I had shot a deer. After I shot my deer, we spent 4-5 hours tracking drips and drops of blood to find him!
