Bible Study Verse: Psalm 37:7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. (NIV)
Thoughts: The life of hunting and fishing is not all catching and harvesting. There is a lot that goes into scouting and research. There are the failed attempts. There is the travel time involved. The hiking, the casting, the watching, the waiting… patience is key. One should never rush headlong into a trip, especially if you are unfamiliar with the territory. You may find that others do not take the same care and focus that you do, and they just might be successful. But I assure you that their success is quite an accident
Action Point: As with hunting and fishing, patience is key in our spiritual life. We are surrounded by those who do wrong in the sight of the Lord, yet have earthly success. We are to wait for the Lord to give us reward, and our reward in heaven is of unimaginable happiness. The 37th psalm is a wonderful reminder of this. “Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.” I would rather wait patiently for a great reward than rush into a mild success.
Sportsman’s Tip of the Day: When we are fishing, there are times when the fishing is slow and we are tempted to move to find the bite. But if we have confidence in the spot, and have found success there before, we stay put. One thing to keep an eye on is other fisherman. If you see others moving from spot to spot then that usually means they are not finding fish to catch. By staying in a known productive area- more time is spent fishing than moving, which will usually lead to more fish being caught
