Bible Study Verse: Luke 8:22-25  22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. 23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. 24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. 25 “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.” (NIV©)

Thoughts: A few weeks back my son, his wife, and I were fishing with a friend in Wyoming. On two separate days we fished on lakes that were stunningly beautiful along with the mountains that surrounded us. On both days, when we first arrived, the surface of the water was smooth as glass. But, the weather was changing often both days and in a matter of minutes we went from smooth water to whitecaps. We put in to shore and waited for the storms to pass, and pass they did. In a few minutes we were back to fishing on smooth waters. Oh, and by the way, my son’s wife smoked the guys! First, biggest, most, and last!

Action Point: Like the Disciples and Jesus in today’s passage, believers in Jesus are going to go through “rough waters.” Jesus Himself promises that. But, like today’s passage, Jesus also promises that He will get us through the tough times if we have faith in Him. Trust Jesus. Have faith in Jesus. Remember Jesus’ words: “Where is your faith?” In Jesus!

Sportsmen’s Tip of the Day: Whether fishing on a stream or lake or hunting in the woods, know the weather! Watch weather forecasts for five to ten days prior to your outing. Watch for passing fronts and what the temperatures, winds, and precipitation are forecast to be. Be smart. Don’t try to beat the weather, the weather has a way of winning
