This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: Ephesians 6:10-17 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and ...

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission   Bible  Study Verse: Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. NLT. Ecclesiastes 10:10 Using a dull ax requires great strength, so sharpen the blade. That's the value of wisdom; it helps you succeed. NLT.  Thoughts: Every sportsman knows the necessity of having a sharp knife. A fisherman filets the fish. Deer and elk hunters’ skin their harvested animals, then debone and slice their venison. Turkey hunters often breast-out gobblers. Then there’s rabbit, squirrel, duck, dove—the list could go on. You know what I am talking about: after the harvest, you’ve got to have a sharp knife. A dull knife will make a mess of things  Action Point: We all need to stay sharp in life, too. Staying sharp Biblically requires regular and intentional engagement in Scripture. Everyone needs to set aside time every day and dig into God’s word. Memorize verses to internalize God’s Wor...

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse:   Luke 3:4-6 4  As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.  5  Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth.  6  And all people will see God’s salvation.’” [ a ]  (NIV©)    Thoughts: In 2015 and 2016 I was blessed with archery elk tags in my home state of Arizona.  Having decided on an area to hunt, I spent a great deal of time in the area becoming familiar with the lay of the land and the patterns the elk followed.  During the pre-season scouting I located every stock water tank in the rather large area and marked their locations on my GPS.  When the hunt arrived, the GPS enabled me to wa...

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission   Bible Study Verse: 1 Samuel 17:35 David says, “Whenever a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it, and rescued the sheep from its mouth. (NIV)   Thoughts: Nothing better than seeing a kid get his first big buck. This boy did during the Indiana youth season and he’s the grandson of one of my good friends. Not everyone in their family hunts, but they all love sharing in the harvest. This young man will remember this hunt for the rest of his life, and I bet his dad will too!    Action Point: So, there he was standing on the banks of a river with a 9-foot-tall enemy on the other side. Calling him out to fight when no one else would go. We all know the story of David and Goliath. David stepped up and held steady when it counted. He held onto his faith in God alone when he picked up those 5 stones to use as ammo, as he faced insurmoun...

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: Proverbs 28:14 “Blessed is the one who always trembles before God, but whoever hardens their heart falls into trouble.”  Thoughts: Have you ever heard the bugle of a bull elk? Or heard multiple bull elk bugling, all at the same time? The sound is breathtaking, especially when you’re in remote country, looking at snow- capped mountains, on a crisp, clear day with no wind. In my opinion, it is one of the most awesome experiences you can find in the USA. Elk are one of the most majestic animals to be seen in the wild. No wonder so many people want to pursue them on an outdoor adventure.  Action Point: When I think of the elk, and how we put them into a class all by themselves, how majestic and amazing they are, it makes me wonder. Do we hold our amazing Lord Jesus Christ in a place of awe and wonder? Do we worship Him on a daily basis? Do we think of Him constantly, like some people ...

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse : Acts 13:22 “After removing Saul, He made David their king. He testified concerning him: I have found David, son of Jesse, a man after my own heart: he will do everything I want him to do.” NIV  Thoughts : It was early morning in the cold, dark mountains of Wyoming. I was on my horse, trotting along down a secluded trail. I was on a mission. I had a specific place in mind to look for elk. As we walked, a beaver splashed in the water nearby, and the horse jumped 3 feet to his left. This particular horse was afraid of its own shadow in the dark. The thought made me smile. The above verse came to mind as I continued riding and contemplating life.  Action Point When you look at the life of David in Scripture, you’ll see that he was a man’s man. He was a hunter, warrior, and a respected leader, but he was unfaithful to his wife and had a man killed. Even still, every time he did somethi...
