This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: Matthew 4:19 “And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (ESV) Thoughts: Fishing takes patience, and sometimes patience will pay off, other times you sit there waiting hours and still come home with nothing except stories about how the tree underwater ate your favorite lure. I heard a fishing story once about a boat that came through and stopped under someone’s line while they were fishing from the bank of a lake, making it impossible for the fisherman fishing from land to reel in.  This story really got me thinking about the verse above and how we are to be fishers of men. Sometimes we go fishing and we are able to reel in our fish, and help guide them the right way so that our savior can do what he does best. However, sometimes it’s not that easy, the enemy will get in the way and stop under our line making it difficult to reel our fish in, unfortunately at t...

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: 2 Corinthians 7:1  Therefore, since we have these [great and wonderful] promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, completing holiness [living a consecrated life—a life set apart for God's purpose] in the fear of God. AMP.   Thoughts: There is a short time between deer season and turkey season, around six weeks, where I live and hunt. There’s a lot to get done during this period: pruning limbs, planting trees, moving cameras, and hunting shed deer antlers. But this year, there is an additional task at hand. There are a lot of nuisance trees and shrubs on our land that need to be taken out. I have tried the ‘hack and squirt’ technique of removing some sweetgum, the tree of heaven, Chinese tallow (popcorn tree), and Chinese privet. I targeted these invasive species that are scattered throughout stands of oak trees and have hindered t...

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: Galatians 5:1  "It was for freedom that Christ set us free. Therefore, stand firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery."   Thoughts: My wife has often said, "You've created a monster!" when speaking to me about my son Kyron. He wants to be hunting 24/7. Now that spring turkey season is here, he is having a hard time understanding why he can't just go out in the woods behind our house and hunt while I am at work. In his mind, it is our property, and he should be free to hunt it by himself. He has come to understand the season laws, but is having a hard time accepting the youth hunter laws.   Action Point: Many have a misunderstanding of freedom. Many think that freedom is the right to do whatever you want whenever you want to do it. We can hear this mindset in our culture today in many of the "hot" topics, such as abortion, women's sports,...

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: Romans 10:13 For, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." NIV. Acts 2:21  And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. NIV. Thoughts: It’s the time of the year in my neck of the woods to plan for the following fall hunting season. Hunting leases expire and are renewed yearly at this time of year. It opens the door for hunters to join leases and for hunting clubs to find new members. It also allows clubs to pick up more land to lease if any has become available. Hunters are making plans, and hunting clubs are making plans. I have to make decisions; I either have to pay and renew my membership in my current hunting lease or let it go and pay for a membership in another lease. If I don’t do anything, I will be left out and hard pressed to find good hunting grounds when the October archery season opens for deer hunting. I have to make plans. Action ...
