Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (NIV)  Thoughts: While visiting the grandchildren in Florida during the winter months, we occasionally take a charter for deep-sea fishing. Most of the seasons for gamefish are closed during the winter months except for a few species. We usually pursue the large schools of Mingo Snapper. Unfortunately, Mingo’s are one of the Dolphin's favorite foods. The motors of the large boats apparently attract the dolphins, knowing easy meals are on the way. They wait until a fish gets hooked and then they pull them off the hook. Occasionally, when you hook a larger gamefish, the sharks lurking in the depths below devour your fish just below the gills. All you retrieve is the remaining head of your prized gamefish.  Action Point: Those aggressive predators of the sea remind

Highlights Lac Vieux Desert Fishing Trip

Bob Host and Guide                    True Fish Stories Shared The Men of the Outdoors began its’ busy summer schedule with a trip to Lac Vieux Desert to spend several days fishing. Despite a little rain and difficult wind conditions fish were caught. A large number of bluegills, nice size perch and northern pike created some enjoyable times on the lake. We spent several hours each day cleaning fish. We did use some of the fish for a very good fish fry. Fishing was just part of the experience. Our times together, building friendships and sharing stories was an important part of our trip.   Again, Bob Dailey served as our host and guide. Bob did an awesome job which we greatly appreciate.   As is our practice we began each day with a devotion. The theme for this devotional series was the importance of getting in Gods’ word and relying it to carry us through life’s challenges. We thank our Loving Father for blessing us not only for the fish we caught, bu

Walk in obedience to all I command you, that it may go well with you.” Jeremiah 7:23 NLT “This is what I told them: Obey me, and I will be your God, and you will be my people. Do everything as I say, and all will be well.  Thoughts: It was Oct 1 in the beautiful mountains of northwestern Wyoming. Overnight we had gotten up to 8 inches of fresh snow on the ground. The sky was pitch black. The stars were shining brightly. We fed the horses before saddling them. We were looking forward to an exciting day of elk hunting. My son and I looked at each other and we just knew we would kill elk today. The conditions were perfect! There was no wind, fresh snow, a clear sky, everything you dream about for elk hunting. My son had the license. I was there to help because he had injured his knee. We

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: Luke 5:16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. NIV Mark 1:35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. NIV  Thoughts: Hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors with others is very enjoyable. The outdoors should be shared with others. But sometimes, I need to get away by myself in the field. Nothing is better for me than maneuvering on a gobbling tom, catching bass from my favorite creek, or watching woods ducks fly to roost on a cool autumn evening—all alone. You know the feeling, getting away from the hustle and bustle. It’s reset time.  Action Point: Corporate worship and gatherings with fellow believers are vital; we should not prioritize outdoor activities over these. Just as necessary is time alone with God. Setting aside time each day to read God’s word and pray is essential to se

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: 1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. (ESV)  Thoughts: Animals are all classified by species and subspecies. If you look at the picture above, you will undoubtedly see a cow elk. But, can you identify the subspecies? Your choices are North American, Tule, Roosevelt, Manitoba and Rocky Mountain elk. Certainly, I can, but only because I took the picture and know from what region it was taken. Without a solid, educated understanding of elk and other animal species in this country you often cannot distinguish the subspecies among them. By living among wildlife and studying them through research and time spent in the field, you can learn to recognize animals by their tracks, droppings, scent and other means.  Action Point: In addition to the verse above, 2 Peter 2:1 also war
