This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: Corinthians 16:13   Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. (NIV) Thoughts:  To be a proficient shooter there are 7 fundamentals you need to know and use.  The first one is position/stance. You need to have a solid and stable stance to shoot from.  Sometimes situations don't allow for you to get into the same type of stance you use at the range, but you should always try to get into as stable of a stance as possible when shooting. You can become more proficient at getting into a solid stance through training. Action Point: Just like with shooting, there are fundamentals we as Christians need to be proficient with. The first is where do you stand with our Heavenly Father? How solid is your faith?  You need to stand on the solid ground of truth. The truth found in the scriptures. Your faith should be in Jesus Christ and His promises re...

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: Genesis 1:26   Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." (NKJV) Thoughts: Ruling over the fish of the sea and the birds in the air is an awesome responsibility that God has given us. With new technology, it is easier to overharvest our fish and game. It is crucial to maintain proper predator/prey ratios. Harvesting game should depend on the populations. Once an animal is harvested, we must utilize it as a food source and thank God for His provision. Action Point: Take the responsibility to promote rules within your party for hunting and fishing that emphasize good ethics and stewardship. Sportsmen's Tip of the Day: Try going barbless, release your fish carefully, and only ke...

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse: Psalm 119:89  Your Word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. (NIV) Thoughts : So, I have a decent library in my world that encompasses a lot of books about outdoor experiences. Some practical, some spiritual, and even some great fiction. I find myself going back to practical books more than the others. These are cookbooks, tactical books, but one I have is really valuable. I got it a few Christmases ago and it shows you how to butcher just about any kind of critter you can think of and recipes too. Now I’m not going to go roast a racoon anytime soon, but there is guidance in there on how to do it. There is only one small section covering the Opossum, which we have a lot of in the Midwest. It’s about two paragraphs and the author says not to eat them unless absolutely necessary because they are pretty nasty. Not sure I haven’t tried it, but a great book just the same....

2025 Year In Review

Image
Men of the Outdoors 2025 Year in Review 2025 was another active year for The Men of the Outdoors. The ministry hosted 9 events and a Sportsmen Breakfast. Our events saw some changes as we added two new events a weekend fishing trip to Eagle River and a Muzzleloader event. For 2026 we plan to rework an ice fishing event and make more changes to gain a larger number of participants. Our Sportsmen Breakfast was another success and remains to be our primary effort to reach the general public. The number of subscribers to our blog continues to grow which means more outdoor guys are receiving our Monday Devotions. To our Blog we added seven more Bible classes in our Biblical Manhood series. The Ministry also hosted 15 Bible Classes during the year. A first for the Men of the Outdoors in 2025 was the addition of service projects. We help a resort owner install 1400 railing spindles and helped with a Trunk and Treat event at Emanuel. We will look to do more community services activities in 202...

Matthew 2: 1-2 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked “Where is the one who has been born King of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship Him. ” The Magi traveled a long and dangerous journey to worship the one who was born King of the Jews. Hunters will plow through ice, mud and swamps, endure mind numbing boredom just to have an encounter with an animal or bird. How God pleasing it must be when hunters use the same drive to worship the one who was born King of the Jews, Our Savio r.  Have a Blessed New Year

Luke 2:10–14 [10] And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. [11] For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. [12] And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” [13] And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, [14] “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” The one born in a manger would one day bring a peace that would open the door to our home in heaven. Spend some time meditating on the great love the one born in a manger has for you. Wishing you a very Blessed Christmas

This Devotion was written by Sportsmen Devotional and posted with permission Bible Study Verse : Psalm 107:23-25; 28-30  Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business on great waters, they see the works of the Lord, and His wonders in the deep. For He commands and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up the waves of the sea. Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble, and He brings them out of their distresses. He calms the storm, so that its waves are still. Then they are glad because they are quiet; so He guides them to their desired haven. (NKJV) Thoughts: Most avid fishermen, like myself, have experienced rough weather while out fishing in a small boat. When that has happened to me, I have usually been prepared and able to reach safety before things got too rough. However, one time was a little different. We had taken our nineteen-foot, open-bow runabout into the Gulf of California. This was a new experience for me, even though I had spent four years in the Navy. T...
